Raed Athamneh
Fixer, Gaza. In Crisis.
Raed Athemneh has worked with many of the world’s leading media organisations covering breaking news and investigative features in Gaza. The work he has helped to produce has been broadcast internationally, on BBC, Aljazeera and ARD, and made the front pages of the New York Times and International Herald Tribune. A Palestinian, he lives with the consequences of conflict every day.
In 2006 Raed lost his home and 18 members of his family in a single bomb attack. In January this year, all of the family’s homes and possessions were destroyed during Israel’s ground offensive. A grant from the Trust has enabled Raed and his family to move out of the makeshift tents that were housing them, into more permanent accommodation.
They now have some security while Raed continues to try and earn a living.
